Diabetes And Its Causes
Diabetes has become a major health issue since last couple of decades. It is mainly due to declining physical activity and poor diet habits. So weight is proportional to chances of one developing Diabetes. Other causes of Diabetes are Genetic issues, PCOD, family history and so on.
Diabetes is reversible in mild to moderate cases provided one follows discipline in Lifestyle. Sleep is an important but often overlooked part of our life. Sleep is infact as important as Exercise and Diet. Poor sleep or inadequate sleep in long run can lead to Cardiovascular ailments, Cancers, Dementia and Mental health issues. So it is important to have good sleep hygeine. That is atleast 8 hours of u disturbed sleep is recommended in adolescents and young adults and atleast 7 hours of undisturbed sleep is recommended in middle aged and elderly. Daily exercise and timely food habits help in getting good sleep.

Hygeine is one of the most important things which can help us prevent deadly diseases. Diseases such as pneumonia, upper respiratory infections, diarrhoea, urine infection and eye infection are caused by poor hygiene. Hygiene with respect to what we drink, eat, inhale or touch decides the kind of infection or ailment one will suffer from. Example, contaminated hands/utensils, water/food will lead to diarrhoea. Similarly if we do not wear mask in crowded places or while travelling in public transport we do catch respiratory infections. So hygeine is an essential modality to prevent infections. To overcome this, handwashing, clean utensils, clean food, clean water is vital.

Similar to complications seen in Diabetes, High BP and high cholesterol do have long term complications(related to Heart, Brain, Kidneys and eyes). So it is important to regularly check BP and Cholesterol to know if they are in normal range. If not, medications do help to keep BP and Cholesterol in adequate control. After the age of 30, it is recommended to go for screening tests to diagnose and detect certain lifestyle related diseases early so that long term complications can be addressed and avoided. Allergy is a common phenomenon seen across various age groups. Allergy can be of 3 varieties. Skin allergy(Itching and rash), Upper respiratory allergy(Sneezing and running nose) and Asthma(Allergy of lungs). Allergies are triggered more commonly in rainy and winter season. But some allergies are non seasonal. It is important to understand that the first solution to avoid allergy is to identify the allergen and try to avoid contact of that allergen. Example, Dust, Pollen grains, Milk are common allergens which when inhaled or consumed trigger symptoms. One may have more 3-4 allergens causing allergy at a time. So it is challenging to predict the allergen and get away from it. There are medicines available to suppress symptoms arising out of allergy which are often needed for long duration. Immunity to overcome allergies is important. So one needs to develop good hygiene, good lifestyle and good sleep to face this challenging health issue. Also, vaccination and immunotherapy do play a role in treatment of allergies.
